The purchase of a domain name is one of the most important purchases you will make in your business.
Why would I say that? Well, lets first examine what your business might be like WITHOUT one.
Lets consider a hypothetical example of a simple affiliate business that sells an information product. They sell an ebook about how to write a killer ad.
The link given to affiliates looks like this:
http://www.killeradwriting.com/affid?176896
Now, given a choice between
http://www.killeradwriting.com/affid?176896 and http://www.Killer-Ads.info
Which would YOU click on? Why? The simple answer is because the second link simply looks better. I am going to call this “clickabilityâ€. The second reason may be less obvious, but more insidious.
Tell me true, If given the first choice, would you chop off the affiliate link? Believe me, its common, its human nature! For some reason, people chop off the link that would give the person credit for the sale! If you are looking at a business opportunity, its STANDARD to chop off the rep’s id. People want to get to the ‘Big Kahuna’! They want the leader, the creator of the system as their sponsor. People feel they will be in the best position to earn if placed with the top leader. Thats all well and good- but it leaves YOU in the unfortunate position of having an ugly, long link, that people will drop your id off of! Your advertising dollars are actually increasing the income of the ‘Big Kahuna’!
So, the first reason you need a domain name is because it makes your links far more clickable, and the second is it will help you to KEEP more of your profits because people won’t ‘chop off’ the part that gives you the credit! Finally, you must have a short, attractive link in any advertising you place. No one is going to take the time to type in the whole url if you were to place something like
http://www.killeradwriting.com/affid?176896 in the classifieds!

Now that we have established that a domain name is essential, lets move on to Advanced Sponsoring Lesson #3: How to Choose a Domain Name.

Domain names are important. Often I’m amazed at the lonks people send out even when doing e-mail marketing. I believe using a good link cloaker also does the job well.
The main thing is that people don’t cut off your affiliate part and that the link looks neat and tidy.
Am I correct?
P.S. The information you provide is helpful!
I have tried putting “ClickHere” and hyper link that to the affiliate page for the exact same reason. Good Advice!!
Good advice. Thanks.
This is a great tip. I use this on a regular basis and have over 80 domain names registered.
I use them for different reasons.
Pointing to a Free Webpage-
When the .name domain extension came out I purchased GregoryCollins.name and forwarded it to a page I created just for it- http://gregorydcollins.googlepages.com. I think you will agree that GregoryCollins.name is much easier to read.
Getting KeyWords Highlighted by Google-
Another trick is to use dashes to string together keywords so they are bolded in your Google ads. For example, I found that http://mlm-network-marketing-system.com had better results than http://mlmsystems.us with identical ads. When I used keywords like mlm and network marketing, they were displayed in bold print.
Thanks again,
Gregory Collins
YOU ARE SOOOOOO RIGHT!!!! I, too, find it VERY annoying when the domain name is long and it takes the enthusiasm out of looking forward tot he website – let alone typing the whole name in. I find that if you make is short but sweet AND semi-related to the site, it helps people coming back to your site because their brain can relate your site to something that they encounter on a daily basis OR that automatically clicks with them when an event occurs….
Since I do Travel – one of my website domains are: http://www.calahantravel.com
Thanks Melanie! And there’s always domaine redirecting. Instead of http://www.mybookwise.com/lise, I’ve redirected that site to http://www.comeinandbrowse.com.
GREAT GREAT GREAT FOR YOU THANKS MELANIE! YOUR THE LUCKY GIRL
